2024 Election: Bawumia Takes Top Spot, Mahama Draws 8th, Cheddar Secures 12th Position on Ballot

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured a favorable position in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting for the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential elections.

Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, drew the party’s number during the EC’s balloting event held in Accra on Friday. This positions the NPP prominently on the ballot paper.

The main opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), drew the 8th position, while the All People’s Congress (APC) candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, secured the 9th spot.

Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) will appear at number 5, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) picked the 7th spot.

Following the EC’s balloting process on September 20, 2024, independent candidates were also assigned their positions on the ballot. Kofi Koranteng, an independent candidate, took the 10th position, while George Twum Barima will be listed at number 11. The New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), will appear in the 12th spot, and the Movement for Change will be last on the ballot at number 13.

These independent candidates will join nine political parties in what is set to be a competitive race for the presidency.

Earlier, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced that several presidential hopefuls had been disqualified due to their failure to rectify errors in their nomination forms, despite being given ample time.

Among those disqualified are Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP).
