2026 World Cup: Ghana Embassy in US pledges support for Black Stars campaign

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has assured of the Embassy’s full support to ensure Ghana’s participation in the upcoming World Cup is successful and memorable.

He said the Mission would work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to address coordination and logistical needs arising from the tournament’s multi-city format, while also advancing Ghana’s broader national interests linked to the competition.

Ambassador Smith made the commitment when the President of the GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, paid a courtesy call on him in the United States to discuss Ghana’s group placement and preparations ahead of the tournament.

The Ambassador expressed optimism about Ghana’s prospects, noting that the national team boasts experienced players capable of making the country proud on the global stage.

In his remarks, Mr Simeon-Okraku said Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. He noted that the group arrangement would require matches to be played across multiple venues—Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto—posing logistical challenges for the team and its supporting delegation.

He added that the GFA is counting on close collaboration with the Embassy both before and during the tournament to support team operations and promote Ghana’s interests internationally, describing the World Cup as a major global platform for the country.

The GFA President also announced plans to launch new national team jerseys in Washington, D.C., and disclosed that the Association would use the World Cup period to establish talent identification camps aimed at sourcing young players for the future.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Smith and Mr Simeon-Okraku reaffirmed their commitment to work together to deliver on the outlined plans and to support Ghana toward a successful World Cup campaign.
