Mahama visits GAF Recruitment stampede victims @37 Military Hospital

The President of the republic, John Dramani Mahama has visited the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to check on victims receiving treatment following the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium this morning, Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

During his visit to the hospital’s emergency ward, the President received firsthand briefings from medical officials on the condition of the injured and the ongoing response efforts.

He was accompanied by several government officials, including Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson.

At least 6 people have been confirmed dead, while 12 remain in critical condition, including 5 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the stampede occurred when thousands of young Ghanaians crowded the stadium in a desperate attempt to secure enlistment. The overwhelming numbers at the entry points reportedly led to intense pushing and jostling, causing chaos, multiple injuries, and fatalities.

Security personnel have cordoned the area with military officers blocking major roads leading to the stadium to maintain order and support rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital morgue.

The incident occurred amid an extended recruitment period announced by the GAF. The exercise, originally scheduled to close on October 31, 2025, had been extended by one week following technical challenges on the recruitment portal.
