The Electoral Commission (EC) has pledged to conduct a thorough voter exhibition exercise and ensure that political parties receive a credible voter register for the upcoming December elections.
This commitment comes in response to demands from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the immediate release of the provisional voter register for the December 7 general elections, ahead of the exhibition exercise.
Dr. Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, criticized the delay in releasing the register, attributing it to the EC’s incompetence and suggesting it might be a deliberate attempt to provide political parties with a substandard register. He warned that the delay has left the NDC and other stakeholders “deeply concerned” and that the EC’s actions, if not corrected, could lead to chaos in the country.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, refuted these claims. He urged the NDC and other stakeholders to work with the EC during the exhibition process to address any issues. He assured that the EC is committed to delivering a high-quality final register once the exhibition is complete.
“Why would we fight the very people who are going to help us complete this work? We all know the magnitude of the task ahead… So, they should understand that once we provide the register, they, along with voters, will help us identify and rectify any challenges during the eight-day exhibition,” he said.
Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that the EC is focused on delivering a credible and accurate final voter register once all processes are completed.
