Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutoum, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has criticized the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, over how alleged wrongdoing is being handled under him.
Dr. Adomako Kissi, speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Tuesday, December 23, said the AG seems to prioritize media attention over court processes.
He argued that Dr. Ayine, who is mandated to advise the President on legal matters and prosecute state-related offences, has been politicizing matters instead of focusing on formal prosecutions.
“Is the Attorney General seeking for the court to pass judgment, or he’s seeking for public opinion on these matters. From where I sit, I feel strongly that the Attorney General is doing machinations, politicizing everything,” Dr. Adomako Kissi said.
He further urged the AG to focus on his official duties rather than making public statements on ongoing investigations.
“So spare me some of these things, populist things. Go to your desk, do your duty well, and let us hear it from the court judgment, the prosecutions. His yardstick is a court result, not media work,” he noted.
The comment comes in the wake of a recent press conference addressed by the Attorney General, during which he alleged that some politically exposed persons have defrauded the state by false pretence.
Dr. Ayine announced that Wontumi Farms Limited, a company owned by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, and its directors, will be prosecuted for allegedly using fake documents to secure a GHS24 million loan from the Ghana EXIM Bank.
The AG also revealed that the leader and founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, and his wife, will face prosecution over alleged forgery and money laundering involving GHS3.1 million.
