Parliament has formally approved the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, a flagship initiative of the John Mahama administration.

The legislation was passed following thorough discussions and debates between the Majority and Minority sides in the House.
Introduced to Parliament in late 2025, the bill seeks to transform Ghana’s economy into a round-the-clock operational system. It provides for the creation of a 24-Hour Economy Authority, which will act as the central body responsible for coordinating and implementing the policy nationwide.
The Authority will be tasked with synchronising efforts between the public and private sectors, mobilising investment, and ensuring the necessary regulatory and infrastructural frameworks are in place to sustain continuous economic activity.
The 24-hour economy policy was a major campaign promise of the NDC during the 2024 elections and is being promoted by the government as a key strategy for job creation, increased productivity, and overall economic growth.
However, the bill faced some opposition. Minority lawmakers expressed concerns that the policy could lead to security challenges and inconvenience for citizens if not properly managed.
In response, the Majority argued that the potential economic benefits outweigh the risks, assuring that sufficient security and regulatory measures would support a smooth rollout.
With the bill now passed, the government can proceed with establishing the 24-Hour Economy Authority and begin implementing the initiatives outlined in the legislation.
