Egyptian troops have completed training in preparation for their deployment with the African Union Mission to Support Security and Stability in Somalia (AMISSS).

The mission, which aims to strengthen Mogadishu’s efforts against Al-Shabaab and enhance regional peace and security, has had its mandate extended by the United Nations through 31 December 2026.
Egypt’s involvement comes amid heightened regional attention, following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and ongoing tensions in the Red Sea and Sudan.
During the exercises, the troops conducted field drills and displayed the military vehicles and equipment that will be used in the operation.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside Egypt’s Defence Minister, inspected the troops, assessing their readiness and combat preparedness.
The upcoming deployment highlights the deepening security cooperation between Egypt and Somalia.
