The Lands Ministry is vetting 8,160 public land lease applications.

The Ministry of Lands has completed a review of 8,160 public land lease applications across all 16 regions of Ghana, Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah announced.

The applications included 4,176 direct allocations, 2,799 regularisations, 19 state bungalow allocations, 108 land swap or public-private partnership deals, 795 subsequent transactions, and 265 new allocations.

The exercise was led by a committee chaired by Deputy Lands Minister Alhaji Yusif Suleimana, following a directive by President John Mahama on January 10, 2025, which ordered a pause on all public land lease activities.

The review aimed to prevent misuse, restore order in land administration, and ensure public land transactions deliver value for the state.

The committee identified lapses in compliance with the Lands Commission’s internal procedures that compromised transparency. Its findings and recommendations have been submitted to Cabinet and approved, with additional directives for immediate implementation.

The measures are intended to strengthen oversight, improve compliance, and ensure public lands are managed with integrity in the national interest.
