The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will commence Ghana Card registration for minors aged 6 to 14 years on October 7, 2024.
This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to include every citizen in the national identification system.
The first phase of the registration will take place in schools within selected districts, providing easier access to eligible children. By focusing on schools, the NIA aims to simplify the process for parents and guardians.
Alfred Gazari, Deputy Director of Operations at the NIA, underscored the importance of this exercise during an interview with Citi News. He emphasized that integrating children into the national database is crucial for comprehensive identification coverage across Ghana.
“It’s vital to register children between 6 and 14 years as part of our goal to enroll every Ghanaian,” Gazari noted. “We have already registered those above 15 years and have begun with ages 0 to 5. This marks the final phase for Ghanaians both within and outside the country.”
He further stressed the importance of the Ghana Card, stating, “Everyone needs the card to participate in meaningful activities. It’s essential we include the 6 to 14-year-olds.”
