During his address at the UN General Assembly, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty, called for permanent seats for Africa and Arab nations on the UN Security Council.
“We cannot accept that Africa and the Arab states still have no permanent representative on the Security Council or enjoy the associated privileges,” Abdelatty stated.
He expressed support for the Sirte Declaration and the Ezulwini Consensus, emphasizing the need to address the historical injustice faced by the African continent in global governance.
In addition, Abdelatty urged for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as the conflict nears its 12th month, stressing that ending the violence is a top priority for his government. He also called for the urgent delivery of medical and humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
