Nigeria ready to boost electricity supply to Togo and ECOWAS nations.

Rising electricity demand in Togo has prompted calls for an increase in power imports from its West African neighbor, Nigeria.

Officials from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company met with representatives of Compagnie Energie Electrique du TogoET, headquartered in Lomé, receives about 75 megawatt-hours of power from NDPHC.

The Director-General of CEET praised NDPHC for its “consistent” electricity deliveries, noting that reliability has been crucial as the utility expands service to new industrial, commercial, and residential customers.

“Increasing electricity demand has followed the onboarding of new customers and ongoing government initiatives to broaden access to power nationwide,” the CEET Director-General explained.

CEET emphasized that additional electricity would support Togo’s power expansion strategy, ensuring that recently connected consumers enjoy stable energy supply.

In response, Jennifer Adighije confirmed that NDPHC is prepared to increase electricity exports to Togo as well as other West African countries.

The NDPHC CEO highlighted that the company operates multiple power plants under Nigeria’s National Integrated Power Project and is committed to advancing regional energy integration, leveraging its capacity to support cross-border electricity supply.

According to a statement, Adighije underscored the importance of establishing sustainable commercial agreements to guide future power transactions. She noted that credible financial guarantees and structured payment mechanisms are essential to mitigate the risks associated with cross-border electricity supply and ensure the long-term viability of the partnership.

The statement also indicated that a reliable payment framework would protect NDPHC’s commercial interests while enabling the company to continue contributing to regional energy stability through power exports.

Observers described the meeting as productive, reaffirming both organizations’ shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and collaboration within the electricity sector across the region.
