Middle East turmoil prompts Ghana to evacuate citizens from Qatar.

The Ghanaian government has ordered an emergency evacuation of its nationals in Qatar amid rising security concerns in the Gulf region.

On March 15, the Ghanaian Embassy in Doha announced that the operation is a precautionary measure following a government review of the evolving situation. The evacuation is intended as a one-way repatriation for citizens who wish to return home immediately.

Ghanaians seeking evacuation are instructed to submit the biodata pages of their passports via email to the embassy at doha@mfa.gov.gh by March 17. Embassy officials stressed that this step is crucial to ensure the safety of citizens in the Gulf state.

The announcement comes after an earlier alert on March 6 warning residents in Qatar of the deteriorating security environment. Although specific threats were not disclosed, the government said the move is meant to address a potentially unpredictable and volatile situation.

Authorities in Accra are closely monitoring developments and coordinating with the embassy to ensure a safe and orderly return for those opting to leave. Analysts note that while such evacuations are rare, they reflect escalating geopolitical tensions in parts of the Middle East and the importance of rapid government response to protect citizens abroad.

The initiative also highlights the broader challenge African governments face in safeguarding their citizens during periods of regional instability, with the embassy providing guidance and support throughout the evacuation process.
