Ministry of Energy sets April 15 deadline for 24-hour economy proposals

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has instructed all its affiliated agencies to submit comprehensive plans by April 15 to guide the rollout of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.

Deputy Minister Richard Gyan-Mensah shared the directive during a media interaction at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the 24-Hour Economy Authority and the National Petroleum Authority, a move aimed at boosting continuous operations in the downstream petroleum sector.

He explained that formal letters requesting the submission of implementation roadmaps have already been sent to the relevant agencies.

“In my statement, I noted that the Minister has directed all agencies to prepare and submit their 24-hour economy roadmaps. The ministry fully supports the 24-hour economy, and it is important that every agency not just the NPA develops a clear plan,” Gyan-Mensah said.

He added that the exercise is intended not only to drive economic transformation but also to create new employment opportunities.

“Before coming here today, the letters had already been signed and dispatched to the various agencies,” he confirmed.

According to the deputy minister, several entities in the energy sector have already made progress in adopting 24-hour operational frameworks.

Agencies such as the Tema Oil Refinery and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company are reportedly moving ahead with internal plans, while others are at different stages of preparation.

The April 15 deadline is expected to give the ministry a comprehensive view of the sector’s readiness and highlight any gaps in implementation.

“Many of them are already well advanced in their processes. The deadline gives them until the middle of next month to submit their plans officially, allowing us to assess and enforce the implementation of the 24-hour economy within all agencies,” Gyan-Mensah said.

He emphasized that successfully establishing a 24-hour economy in the energy sector could create substantial job opportunities, both directly within the agencies and indirectly across the wider economy.
