Mahama appoints Prof. Asuming, Henry Wampah, and three others to the Fiscal Council.

President John Dramani Mahama has put forward five nominees to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 8, in a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications. The move is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce fiscal discipline and improve oversight of public finances.

The nominations were made in accordance with Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).

The Fiscal Council is tasked with ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent decision-making in economic policy.

Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah will serve as Chairperson of the Council, leading the team of appointees.

Professor Patrick Opoku Asuming has been nominated as the academic representative, bringing a wealth of experience in economic research and policy formulation.

Leslie Dwight Mensah was chosen to represent a research think tank, providing a policy-focused perspective to the Council’s activities.

J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert at the Finance Ministry, has also been included, alongside Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.
