Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged to simplify Ghana’s passport application process by integrating Ghana Card data as the primary source for applications.
While campaigning in the Nkwanta North constituency, Dr. Bawumia announced that his administration would work to streamline passport issuance, aiming to reduce bureaucracy and make the process more accessible. Known for his leadership in Ghana’s digitalization efforts, he emphasized the role of digital solutions in advancing national development, despite criticisms of not addressing certain economic challenges.
During his visit to Nkwanta North in the Oti Region on Monday, October 28, Dr. Bawumia underscored the benefits of digitalization for Ghanaians, pointing out that a simplified passport application process would make obtaining passports much easier. “We have seen that many people want to get passports, but the process is cumbersome. I plan to make it simple: submit your Ghana Card and pay the fees—no forms, just straightforward service from 2025,” he stated.
In a subsequent visit to the Akan constituency, a paramount chief expressed disappointment over the Oti Region’s limited support for the NPP in the last election, despite the party’s role in the creation of the new region.
