The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership has set an ambitious target of winning 28 to 30 parliamentary seats in the Eastern Region in the upcoming elections. The party currently holds 25 of the region’s 33 constituencies and is aiming to secure an additional three to five seats, citing its track record of developmental projects and commitment to hard work.
At the NPP’s health walk, dubbed the Final Walk, in Kwahu-Abetifi, General Secretary Justin Frempong Kodua urged party members to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to ensure the continuation of key policies such as Free Senior High School (Free SHS).
“We will wake up early on December 7, get to the polls, vote, and remain vigilant as the ballots are counted,” he said. “We’ve heard rumors of plans by the NDC to tamper with ballot boxes, but we will not allow that. We will maintain peace while ensuring the integrity of the election.”
Samuel Attah Akyea, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, also encouraged Eastern Region residents to deliver a majority win for the NPP, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary dominance.
“We need a strong majority in Parliament. It’s not Speaker Bagbin who decides that—it’s you, the people of the Eastern Region,” Attah Akyea said. “Let’s avoid skirt-and-blouse voting. They claim Ghana is difficult, but even Western countries face economic challenges. By God’s grace, we now have an economist to lead us, so let’s choose Bawumia and digitalization over backward alternatives.”
He dismissed any possibility of the region supporting former President John Mahama, stating, “Eastern Region will not vote for Mahama under any circumstances. We will vote for Bawumia because we value our future.”
