EC Dismisses Claims of Separate Voting Days for Presidential Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims made by Kumasi-based radio and television presenter Oheneba Nana Asiedu suggesting that presidential ballots will be cast on separate days during the upcoming December general elections.

Asiedu was arrested on Saturday, November 23, 2024, and later granted bail by the Ghana Police Service. His arrest was tied to charges of publishing false information likely to disrupt public peace.

The presenter had been summoned by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Friday, November 22, 2024, over allegations that he propagated the misleading statement, which quickly gained traction on social media.

In response, the EC issued a statement on Sunday, November 24, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.

“The Electoral Commission urges the public to disregard the misleading statements,” the statement read.

The EC emphasized that the 2024 general election will take place on a single day, December 7, 2024, with polling beginning at 7:00 a.m. and closing at 5:00 p.m.

The Commission further encouraged voters to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes in an orderly manner.
