Police Launch GH¢20K Reward System for Election Informants

The National Election Security Taskforce has introduced a financial reward system to encourage citizens to report potential security threats ahead of the upcoming elections.

The initiative offers rewards ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢20,000 for individuals who provide credible information to the police or other security agencies. Reports can be made through a toll-free hotline: 0800-311-311.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police and head of the National Election Security Taskforce, announced the programme during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on Wednesday, November 27.

Dr. Dampare explained that the initiative is designed to enhance election security by fostering public involvement in safeguarding the process.

“We are introducing an informant reward system with rewards ranging between GH¢1,000 and GH¢20,000. When you provide us with information, we operationalize it. If the results are fruitful, we determine the amount you will receive, and you decide how you would like to receive it,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of the toll-free hotline, noting its accessibility for anyone willing to share information that could contribute to the safe conduct of the elections.

This initiative aims to strengthen public collaboration with security agencies in ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process.
