John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for inaugurating interchanges ahead of the December 7 elections, accusing them of hypocrisy.
Mahama highlighted a 2016 social media post by Gabby Otchere-Darko, a key NPP member, who at the time urged voters to prioritize economic issues over infrastructure projects. Mahama argued that the NPP’s current actions contradict their earlier stance, as the government now showcases road projects for political gain.
The former president’s criticism follows the inauguration of several road projects, including the Flowerpot Interchange and Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II, by President Akufo-Addo. These unveilings come in the final stretch before the 2024 elections.
Speaking during a campaign stop in Bawaleshie, as part of his Greater Accra tour, Mahama expressed frustration over what he described as the NPP’s failure to deliver on their promises to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
“How correct are his [Otchere-Darko’s] words eight years ago? So, don’t let them divert your attention. This election is about change and not an interchange. This election is about unemployment and economic hardship,” Mahama said.
He further criticized the NPP for what he termed corrupt and incompetent leadership, claiming their eight years in power have regressed the nation by a decade.
