Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a candidate in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional executive elections, is confident of securing between 62% and 65% of the votes in the regional chairmanship race.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, August 15, Kokofu said he was optimistic about his chances of emerging victorious, while stressing that his ultimate goal was to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“We’re going to win. We’re looking at 62% to 65% of the votes. But higher than that, it will not be my win; it will be the win of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
He said a victory for him would be part of a broader effort to rebuild the NPP’s grassroots base and position the party to regain power in 2028.
“We just want to see Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia winning the next presidential election, and then also getting majority in Parliament to represent us and to form the majority,” he added.
Kokofu also rejected claims that he was camping delegates on election day to influence the outcome of the contest.
He said his campaign was focused on bringing party members together, galvanising the grassroots and building unity within the NPP.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship contest has emerged as a high-stakes race between two influential NPP stalwarts, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, and Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a former Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency.
