The Electoral Commission (EC) has reversed its earlier directive limiting media access to constituency and regional collation centres.
In a statement released on Monday, December 2, the EC announced that after consultations with key media stakeholders, journalists with photo accreditation for polling station coverage will now be allowed to use the same accreditation to access constituency and regional collation centres.
“From Saturday, 7th December 2024, media persons can access Constituency and Regional Collation Centres using their photo accreditation cards issued by the EC,” the statement read.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing that the revised accreditation policy aims to enhance media access and flexibility during the electoral process.
“The EC is committed to maintaining the highest level of transparency and accountability. This revised accreditation system ensures media personnel can effectively cover the electoral process, reflecting our dedication to openness,” the EC stated.
Details regarding media access to the National Collation Centre are expected to be announced soon.
