Newly promoted teachers don’t need to apply for salary adjustment – GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has clarified that teachers who have been promoted to new ranks do not need to submit application letters or other documents to have their salaries adjusted.

The clarification follows concerns from some newly promoted teachers who said they had been directed to submit application letters, promotion letters and other documents for the processing of salary adjustments to reflect their new ranks.

In a statement dated Saturday, August 22, 2026, the GES said the existing practice is for teachers promoted to new ranks to be automatically placed on the appropriate salary scale.

“Teachers who are promoted to new ranks are usually placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale to reflect the new ranks. This existing practice has not changed,” the statement said.

The GES has therefore directed affected teachers to ignore requests to submit documents for salary adjustments.

Management said it is engaging the few regions and districts that are allegedly requesting such documents and urged teachers to remain calm.

The statement was signed by the Head of Public Relations at the GES, Daniel Fenyi.
