Kuwait on Wednesday strongly condemned Iranian strikes on the country, warning that they threaten its security and stability.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the attacks constituted a “blatant violation” of the country’s sovereignty and a “threat to its security and stability.”
The ministry said the continuation of such attacks represents a “serious breach of international law and the UN Charter,” as well as an “explicit violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817.”
It warned that the escalation poses a “serious threat to regional security and stability” and undermines diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving de-escalation and reducing tensions.
Kuwait reaffirmed its “full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and interests, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents in accordance with international law.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said its Ground Force carried out a missile and drone attack on the headquarters and accommodation of the US commander at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
The IRGC said the strike was carried out simultaneously with attacks on US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Erbil.
It said the attack was in retaliation for a US strike on a house in Sirik in southern Iran a day earlier, which killed four people, including a child.
IRGC said the attack was directed at the US military presence in Kuwait rather than the Kuwaiti people and called for the removal of US forces from the country.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late Tuesday that it had launched strikes against IRGC targets in Iran.
Following the announcement, Iranian media reported explosions on Qeshm Island, as well as in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Chabahar, and Konarak.
