The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public to disregard a viral social media video showing what is purported to be a Voters Register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 being transported in a white pick-up truck, along with other materials.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the EC clarified that the register in the video is not an official document from the Commission. It noted that the Commission’s Voters Register is always in black and white, unlike the colored version shown in the video.
Additionally, the EC explained that political parties receive a copy of the Final Register and often print their own versions for use by their agents. The truck featured in the footage, the Commission added, is not its property.
“This video is calculated to create suspicion and mistrust in the Commission and its operations. The public should disregard it entirely,” the statement read.
Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, called on law enforcement to investigate the matter, pointing out that the visible registration number of the pick-up truck could aid in identifying those responsible.
Key Points from the EC’s Statement:
- The register in the video is not an official EC document.
- The EC’s official registers are black and white.
- The pick-up truck does not belong to the Commission.
- Political parties are responsible for printing copies of the Final Register for their agents.
- The public is encouraged to trust the Commission’s integrity and disregard the misleading video.
The EC remains committed to maintaining transparency and fairness in its processes as the December elections approach.
