EC Reports Minimum Turnout of 83% in Special Voting Exercise

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has assured the public that no shortages of election materials or equipment are anticipated during the December 7, 2024, general elections.

Speaking during her final media engagement ahead of the polls, Mrs. Mensa confirmed that all required materials and equipment have been distributed to the regions in sufficient quantities. “We don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country,” she stated.

Voter Participation

Mrs. Mensa disclosed that 18,774,159 registered voters, representing 55% of the country’s population, are set to participate in the elections.

Special Voting

She praised the success of the special voting exercise, highlighting a high turnout rate, with the lowest recorded at 83%.

Media Access

To ensure transparent coverage, the EC has issued nearly 10,000 accreditation passes to journalists, granting access to polling stations, constituency collation centers, and regional collation centers. Mrs. Mensa urged journalists to uphold professionalism, stating, “Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully.”

Observers

Additionally, over 20,000 local and international observers have been accredited for the elections. To assist with logistics, the EC has provided maps to help observers locate polling centers efficiently.
