I’ll rebuild La Beach economy if elected – Bawumia pledges

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to rebuild the La Pleasure Beach economy and issue leases to businesses operating there if he is elected President.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Dr Bawumia criticised the demolition of structures at the beachfront, expressing concern that movable assets which could have been removed by their owners were also destroyed during the exercise.

He described La Pleasure Beach as a significant social, economic, cultural and international asset that provides livelihoods for thousands of people, particularly the youth.

He said his NPP government would redesign the beachfront to meet required standards, support operators to run their businesses and create an arrangement that allows smaller businesses to coexist with Labadi Beach Hotel and other establishments.

Dr Bawumia pledged that, if elected, his government would issue leases to individual operators.

He also promised to engage the owners of Laboma Beach to resolve their concerns, help them establish their businesses and ensure that their operations comply with the law.

The NPP flagbearer further pledged to address flooding and environmental concerns around the lagoon as part of efforts to develop the area and protect the livelihoods supported by the beach economy.

He said La Pleasure Beach had evolved into one of Ghana’s most vibrant beach resorts and had played a role in hosting international functions and activities associated with the Year of Return.

“I am committed to save the thousands of jobs that beach economy supports and to improve them,” Dr Bawumia said.
