The government will suspend fresh recruitment applications into the country’s security services in 2027, opting instead to enlist qualified candidates left out of previous recruitment exercises because of limited training capacity.
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, said the recruitment portal would remain closed to new applicants next year as the government works to clear the backlog of candidates who had successfully completed the selection process but were unable to secure places for training.
He said the decision followed a directive from President John Dramani Mahama to give priority to those who had already met the recruitment requirements.
Mr Muntaka made the announcement when he appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed.”
The minister’s announcement means prospective applicants hoping to join the security services in 2027 will have to wait, while candidates already deemed qualified will be considered for enlistment as vacancies and training spaces become available.
