ABDULAI DAPILAH APPOINTED AS THE NEW EOCO BOSS BY PRESIDENT MAHAMA
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah as the Acting Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to replace COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah. Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah’s appointment, which took effect on January 27, 2025, is subject to the acceptance and approval of the Board of EOCO, per the constitution.
A communique signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Secretary to the President, further instructed Bashiru Dapilah to confirm his acceptance of the new appointment within a fourteen-day period upon receiving it. His appointment as the Executive Director of EOCO is by the laws outlined in the constitution and the regulations that govern the institution.
“I write to formally inform you that the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the constitution and Section 11(1) of the Economic and Organized Crime Act, 2010 (Act804), has appointed you as the Acting Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing Board of the Authority, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission,” the statement read. His appointment comes just a few days after the removal of COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
Before his promotion, Bashiru Dapilah, also a lawyer, served as the Deputy Executive Director of EOCO, an appointment made by the former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in July 2023. Rising through the ranks, he succeeded Charles Nana Antwi, a Former Deputy Executive Director who proceeded on retirement. He also served as the Head of the Organized Crime Unit within EOCO, a position he has held since 2018. He joined EOCO in August 1998 as Assistant Controller/Assistant staff Officer.
He is an alumnus of the Ghana Law School, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Ghana Legon, T.I Ahmadiyya Secondary School in Kumasi and Wa Secondary School. He has also served on several committees across various institutions.
