The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant increase in the country’s natural gas supply, spearheaded by energy firm ENI, as part of efforts to enhance Ghana’s energy infrastructure and ensure a more reliable power supply.
Effective Sunday, July 13, 2025, ENI will increase its natural gas supply by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), bringing the total daily supply to 270 MMscfd. The Ministry described the move as a strategic step toward building a resilient and sustainable energy future.
To facilitate the upgrade, ENI will temporarily suspend its gas export operations. While this measure is necessary to streamline the supply chain and execute the enhancement, it will temporarily reduce gas availability for power generation, potentially leading to short-term disruptions.
In anticipation, the Ministry has implemented a set of contingency measures in collaboration with stakeholders in the power sector. These include enhanced monitoring of power output and emergency planning to ensure electricity stability across the country.
“We are confident that these proactive steps will effectively manage the transition and maintain a stable power supply for all citizens,” the Ministry said in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Richmond Rockson.
“We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the public and stakeholders during this period of enhancement.”
Meanwhile, the Energy Minister, John Jinapor has announced that there will be a nationwide power interruption on Sunday, July 13. The disruption will result from a temporary shutdown of gas valves to allow for maintenance and rehabilitation works aimed at increasing gas output.
