National Security seizes 7 trucks over suspected goods diversion

National Security Operatives in the Ashanti Region have impounded seven trucks suspected to be used in the diversion of goods.

According to officials, drivers transporting the goods from the Tema Port claim their final destination is Burkina Faso but end up unloading the goods in Kumasi to evade the payment of the required duty on them.

The trucks were intercepted at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region and escorted to Kumasi as part of investigations by National Security officials to ascertain the actual destination.

The drivers have told officials they were transporting the goods to Burkina Faso, but officials insist the goods were being diverted to Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region because their owners were evading taxes.

National Security officers collaborated with Customs officers to escort all the trucks to Kumasi.

Officials have also said they are working to get the owners of the goods as part of investigations.

Customs officers have since taken custody of the impounded trucks.
