A drone strike targeted a bustling marketplace in central Sudan, leaving 28 people dead and dozens more injured, according to a human rights organization. The incident took place on Sunday in Al-Safiya, near the town of Sodari in North Kordofan.

Emergency Lawyers, a group tracking abuses in Sudan’s nearly three-year-long conflict between the national army and a rival paramilitary faction, reported the attack. They did not identify who carried out the strike.
The organization said the market was filled with civilians at the time, including children, elderly citizens, and women. They added that the casualty numbers are preliminary and could rise as more information becomes available.
