Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has lauded the strides made in Ghana’s education sector under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, emphasizing the transformative changes introduced since 2017.
Speaking at the inauguration of 80 educational facilities nationwide, Dr. Adutwum highlighted the government’s commitment to modernizing educational infrastructure and fostering academic excellence. He described these advancements as central to the NPP’s vision for national development, aimed at creating equitable and effective learning environments.
“We cannot educate 21st-century students in 19th-century buildings and expect 21st-century outcomes. It is not going to work, and you can see pictures of children who are excited about what change means here today,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
Drawing inspiration from South Korea’s economic and educational transformation, the Minister reflected on Ghana’s potential to achieve similar success.
“In 1960, our per capita income was higher than South Korea’s. They took bold steps, expanding secondary education in the 1960s and 1970s and embarking on STEM education in the 1970s. We are 50 years behind, but at least we have begun. The evidence will tell the story of how the journey for STEM transformation started,” he remarked.
Dr. Adutwum emphasized that the commissioning of 80 schools marks a significant milestone in efforts to revamp Ghana’s education system, paving the way for a brighter future for the nation’s students.
