Alliance of Drivers Ghana announces 20% fare increase effective 17 March.

The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in truck fares, effective Monday (17 March 2025), in response to rising fuel prices and rising vehicle maintenance costs.

George Baffour Owusu Afriyie, the association’s General Secretary, signed a statement on Thursday, March 13, 2025, stating that the fare adjustment was primarily due to recent increases in fuel prices, which went from GHC12.99 per liter to GHC16.23.

Commercial drivers find it challenging to maintain their operations due to the rising costs of engine oil, vehicle engines, and spare parts.

Commercial drivers are self-employed and do not receive government salaries, the group emphasized. They complained that it was becoming harder for them to provide for their families after working long hours and coming home empty-handed.

“How can we go to work and come back home with empty hands. We are not receiving pay from the government. And we are self- employed we are managed our self to take care of our family,” the statement read.
