Another Strike Today As Technical University Teachers Joins The Bandwagon

The initiative of the Technical Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), says its individuals will proceed with the arranged strike starting today, Monday, June 14, 2021, regardless of a mandate from the National Labor Commission to cancel the strike and go to the exchange table on Wednesday.

The Association is fighting in addition to other things helpless states of administration and the dissatisfactions the specialized Universities experience in getting accreditation for scholastic projects.

Addressing Citi News, the National President of TUTAG, Dr. Michael Akurugu, said the strike is in power forthcoming the gathering with the Labor Commission.

As per him, the choice was taken at their congress and can’t be turned around by one individual.

“We just got an encouragement to go to a gathering on Wednesday where it demonstrated that it heard that we will leave on a strike successful Monday, June 14, 2021, and that we should forgo it. Proclaiming a strike or canceling a strike takes an entire cycle.”

“It is a congress choice for us to picket, thus we will meet the NLC on Wednesday and pay attention to what they need to say, however for the time being nothing will change until we understand what the NLC has for us.”

The National Labor Commission (NLC), had prior trained the TUTAG, to suspend the expected strike and show up before it on Wednesday, June 16, 2021.

The NLC in an explanation endorsed by its Executive Secretary, Ofosu Asamoah, said TUTAG has not depleted fair treatment. It, subsequently, requested that the association cut short its expectation.

“The National Labor Commission in the activity of its forces under Section 139 (4) of Act 651 wishes to draw the consideration of the Leadership of TUTAG to Sections 159 and 16 of Act 651 which gives grounds and the cycle to the assertion of a strike and thusly encourages TUTAG to forgo any/or all planned modern activity.”

“We are by this letter welcoming every one of the gatherings to show up before the Commission on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 3:00 pm for a knowledge about the issues in the debate.”
