Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has summoned Parliament to sit on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as the House prepares to return from recess.
In a notice issued on Thursday, September 24, the Speaker directed Members of Parliament to report to the chamber at 12 noon at Parliament House in Accra.
The notice was issued pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
“Pursuant to Article 112(3) of the Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of the Parliament, I, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, hereby summon Parliament to sit on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026 at twelve noon at Parliament House, Accra,” the notice stated.
Although the notice does not specify the matters to be considered at the sitting, the recall comes shortly after the petition by the Minority seeking parliamentary action over the recent cocaine seizures.
The MPs, led by First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu, invoked Article 112(3), which allows at least 15% of Members of Parliament to request an extraordinary meeting of the House.
The request came amid heightened concern over the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at France’s Port of Dunkirk from a container that had departed Ghana, as well as other major narcotics seizures involving consignments linked to the country.
The MPs are seeking parliamentary scrutiny of Ghana’s port security and customs processes, intelligence gathering and the operations of institutions responsible for combating narcotics trafficking.
