According to a source familiar with the decision, US President Joe Biden will nominate Shalanda Young to be director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Young, who is currently serving as acting director of the OMB, must be confirmed by the Senate for the position. Neera Tanden, Biden’s first choice for the job, withdrew from consideration in March after facing stiff opposition over tweets that irritated lawmakers.

Young, a former House of Representatives staffer, will be the first Black woman to hold the position. She was confirmed as deputy in March with votes from both Democrats and Republicans.

According to the source, she will continue to serve as acting director until she is confirmed by the Senate.
