Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has condemned the storming of the house of the Assin South MP, John Ntim Fordjour by officials of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials on April 9, engaged in a standoff with the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev Ntim Fordjour in an attempt to effect his arrest.
This was in relation to drug trafficking and money laundering allegations by the Assin South MP.
Some members of the Minority caucuses rushed to the House of the colleague MP to intervene and prevent the arrest from being arrested.
Speaking to the media, Afenyo-Markin stated that the action by the NIB is a breach of the Legislator’s immunity and privileges, insisting that no formal approval has been granted by the Speaker of Parlaiment.
“What we saw here was in a very bad taste. To armed police, bring NIB officials to come to his house, then No MP is safe.
“It’s clear, what they have done is a breach of privilege and immunity,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He debunked claims by Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu that NIB has written to Bagbin for release of the MP to be interrogated.
“If any letter has been written, it would be brought to my notice. When a letter was written for Kwame A Plus and the other colleague it came to light. This is similar to the Rambo style approach they attempted to use to arrest the Akwatia MP,” he said.
