The Ghana Chamber of Mines has revealed that it is engaging Adamus Resources Limited and relevant regulatory authorities to better understand the circumstances and processes that led to the revocation of the company’s Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases.
The Chamber said the engagements follow the decision by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to uphold the revocation after a Ministerial Review Committee considered Adamus Resources’ petition.
In a press statement, the Chamber said it was seeking a full understanding of the findings and processes underlying the decision before making further comments on the substantive issues.
“Given the significance of the matter, the Chamber is engaging Adamus Resources Limited and the relevant regulatory authorities to obtain a full understanding of the circumstances, findings and processes underlying the decision,” it said.
The Chamber acknowledged the mandate of government and relevant regulatory institutions to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and ensure responsible, safe and environmentally sustainable mining.
It, however, stressed that adherence to the rule of law, due process, fairness and regulatory certainty remained fundamental to maintaining confidence in Ghana’s mining industry.
The Chamber also said it was mindful of the potential implications of the decision for workers and their livelihoods, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments in Ghana.
It urged all parties to continue to operate within the framework of Ghana’s laws and established regulatory processes, and to pursue any outstanding matters through the appropriate legal and institutional channels.
The Chamber said it would allow the ongoing engagements and processes to proceed before commenting further on the substantive issues.
It reaffirmed its commitment to constructive dialogue with government, member companies and other stakeholders towards building a responsible, transparent, predictable and competitive mining industry that protects Ghana’s national interest, safeguards jobs and legitimate investment, and sustains investor confidence.
