President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on global leaders to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to tackle the climate crisis.
Addressing the World Climate Leaders Summit at COP29 in Azerbaijan on Wednesday, November 13, President Akufo-Addo stressed the urgent need for effective measures to protect vulnerable communities from the escalating impacts of climate change.
“With time running out, immediate and impactful solutions are essential to protect lives and ecosystems worldwide,” he said. “We gather here not just as leaders or policymakers but as people united by our love for the land and environment.”
He emphasized that COP29 must mark a shift from dialogue to action, noting that the future of the next generation depends on the choices made today.
With climate financing as a central topic at COP29, President Akufo-Addo also underscored the need for developed nations to fulfill their commitments to financial support, which he sees as essential for accelerating the transition to green energy globally.
