Cops say they arrested Trey Songz because he wouldn’t wear a mask

More details have emerged surrounding the arrest of Trey Songz during a Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday (Jan. 24).

According to TMZ, the violent altercation between a Kansas City police officer and the “Neighbors Know My Name” singer reportedly started because he refused to wear a mask and follow the stadium’s Coronavirus protocols. “During last night’s AFC Championship games, fans complained that a man was not following the Arrowhead fans’ code of conduct or the mandates of the Kansas City Missouri Health Department,” the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) said in a statement on Monday (Jan. 25). “The man was not receptive and refused to comply with Arrowhead security. Security then asked him to leave. He refused to leave.”

The statement continued, “At that point, they requested law enforcement assistance in ejecting him from the stadium. Officers advised the man that if he did not leave, he would be arrested for trespassing. He still refused to comply, at which point officers told him he was under arrest.”

KCPD then said that Trey punched a police officer and placed him in a headlock, which was caught on a nearby person’s camera video. After other officers intervened, the Virginia native was taken into custody.

Trey was released from jail on Monday morning (Jan. 25). He took to Instagram to make a post about the game. “Chiefs game was lit right?!” he captioned photos and video of himself on a private jet and at the game. In one of the photos, the “Back Home” singer was wearing his mask. Last October, he contracted Coronavirus and said that he would take the pandemic seriously and he urged his fans to do the same.

KCPD has referred the case to the Jackson County Prosecutor for further review. No charges have been filed at this time.
