Court Grant Bail to alleged Togolese National attempting to Register in Ghana

Tema, July 15. The Tema Magistrate court presided over by Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong has granted bail to the alleged Togolese National who was arrested for joining a queue in an attempt to register in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Mr. Elvis Kweku Saglah, 35 years old was arrested on Wednesday 8th July 2020 at about 1630 hours GMTby some men perceived to be operatives from Ghana’s National Security at the  Assemblies of God church polling station 1Ataa Saki, in the Nmlitsakpo Electoral area within the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Saglah was earlier granted Police enquiry bail by the Kpone District police command on Thursday and was arrested again on Friday after he reported himself to the police as instructed.

Speaking to Gitficonline.com, Mr.Donnie Saglah relative of the accused stated that, the Accused was a Ghanaian, born to a Ghanaian father late Mr. Mensah Saglah from Anloga in the Voter Region.

Mr.Saglah further explained that, the accused was however born in Togo because his mother, who was also late, is a Togolese.Accordinghim the Accused grew up in Togo, schooledthere, but wasbrought in Ghana by some foreign expatriate in 2009 from Togo and has since remained in Ghana until his arrest on Wednesday.

‘He is a Ghanaian and must be treated with some dignity’ he added. 

Meanwhile the parliamentary candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency,Mr.HopesonAdoye, has stated in a press conference that, the alleged Togolese National would be prosecuted and jailed.

Gitficonline.com further observed at the court that, relatives and friends of the accused stormed the Tema Magistrate Court and were ready to testify to the court so their beloved could bereleased from police custody.

The case has been adjourned to 27 July 2020.
