Court Tells Jomoro MP To Produce Evidence Renouncing Her Ivorian Citizenship Within 10 days

The Sekondi High Court in the Western Region of Ghana has requested the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Tofey to create all substantial reports supporting her case of disavowing her Ivorian citizenship before challenging as a Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress for the voting demographic inside ten (10) working days.

The Sekondi High Court, managed by Justice Dr. Richard Osei Hwere had subdued the application by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the court to pronounce as ‘No Case’, an application looking to announce the appointment of the Jomoro MP as invalid and void.

He has therefore requested the MP, Hon. Dorcas Tofey to deliver the proof of the renunciation of her Ivorian citizenship in ten days.

As indicated by the High Court, there is merit in the application brought before it by one Joshua Emuah Kwofie supplicating the court to repeal the aftereffects of the 2020 parliamentary races for the Jomoro voting public because the chosen MP, Dorcas Tofey holds double citizenship and that the NDC’s counter utilization of ‘No Case’ can’t be allowed.

In his decision today, June 22, 2021, Justice Dr Osei Hwere expressed the litigant, Dorcas Tofey had acknowledged that she had Ivorian citizenship however disavowed it prior to challenging, adding that it will be suitable for her to be permitted to be offered the chance to deliver the proof.

The Presiding Judge, hence, requested Dorcas Affo-Toffey, NDC MP for Jomoro to give the declaration of her renunciation of Ivorian citizenship within 10 days to the Court Registry.
