The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged residents along the Aflao border to resist any attempts by security personnel to seize their Ghana Cards. This follows reports of Ghana Immigration Service officers allegedly confiscating the cards from residents.
During a speech in Aflao, Mahama encouraged the community to stand firm and not be intimidated by these actions, emphasizing that no one, including immigration or police officers, has the authority to take their Ghana Cards.
“Nobody has a right to collect your Ghana card. Nobody, not immigration, not police, nobody. So don’t surrender your Ghana card to anybody.
“It is only the National Identification Authority that has the right to withdraw your card. Once it has been issued, if someone believes you are not a citizen, they must go to the National Identification Authority and obtain a certificate of withdrawal before they can take your card.
“You cannot determine someone’s nationality just by looking at their face on the street.”
