The Electoral Commission of Ghana has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, from contesting in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
This action follows an Interlocutory Injunction issued by the High Court in Sekondi on May 31, 2024, in the case of Gyedu Frimpong & 4 Others vs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission. The court order bars Joana Gyan Cudjoe from presenting herself as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central until the case is resolved.
Furthermore, both the NDC and the Electoral Commission are prohibited from recognizing or granting her any rights or privileges as a candidate.
In an official letter dated October 10, 2024, Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, notified Gyan Cudjoe of her disqualification, explaining that the Commission is obligated to comply with the court order, which has not been overturned or suspended.
