The Electoral Commission (EC) has reaffirmed its commitment to remaining neutral in the upcoming December general elections.
In a press briefing held on Friday, September 20, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa emphasized that the Commission’s role is to facilitate fair, transparent, and credible elections without influencing the results.
“We, as a Commission, do not have the power to determine who wins the elections. It is not within our control to decide the outcome. The power lies with the people of this country,” she stated.
Mensa further clarified that only the citizens of Ghana have the authority to decide who should lead the nation, and the EC’s responsibility is to declare the winner based on the people’s choice. “The candidate chosen by the citizens will be declared President of the Republic of Ghana by the Electoral Commission on December 7, 2024,” she added.
She wished all qualified candidates success and urged them to focus their campaigns on policies that would benefit society. The EC also called for a respectful, issue-based campaign environment.
