The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a stern warning that it will enforce strict penalties against any staff found compromising the integrity of the ongoing 2024 general elections.
This follows the arrest of an EC official, identified as Dery Joseph, in Kintampo South, Bono East Region. The suspect is being investigated for allegedly issuing 15 ballots at the Ampesika Bayere polling station that omitted the first presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
During the Commission’s second media briefing, Benjamin Bano-Bio, Director of Electoral Services, reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to upholding a transparent and fair electoral process. He commended most officials for their professionalism while underscoring that violations would not be tolerated.
“Our officials are performing professionally, except for one—the Kintampo ballot issuer—who has been brought to book,” Bano-Bio said. “We urge all officials to note that the Commission will ensure that any breaches are met with the full rigour of the law. It is imperative for everyone to perform their duties with utmost professionalism.”
He also assured voters that the election process is progressing smoothly and that the EC remains vigilant to address any challenges that may arise.
