Singer Ed Sheeran has fulfilled “any football fan’s dream” by purchasing a minority stake in his hometown football club, Ipswich Town, newly promoted to the Premier League. Sheeran now owns a 1.4% share of the club, though he will not join its board, according to a statement from Ipswich on Thursday.
Despite not having a seat on the board, Sheeran, who frequently attends Ipswich’s home games, will enjoy an executive box at Portman Road Stadium. The 33-year-old artist shared his excitement on Instagram, saying, “Really excited to announce that I have bought a small percentage of my hometown football club Ipswich Town. It’s any football fan’s dream to be an owner in the club they support, and I feel so grateful for the opportunity.”
Sheeran also reflected on his deep connection to Suffolk and Ipswich, where he has lived since the age of three. “Although I have traveled the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in big cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel part of a community and protected. It’s such a joy to be a fan of Ipswich Town.”
Ipswich Town, who secured automatic promotion by finishing second in the English Championship last season, will kick off their Premier League campaign at home against Liverpool on Saturday.
