The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is scheduled to meet with the Electoral Commission (EC) today, Thursday, October 10, to discuss the EC’s plans to begin printing notices of poll and ballot papers on Friday, October 11.
The EC announced its decision to commence the printing process in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 9. However, the NDC has raised concerns and requested detailed statistics on the printing process, citing past allegations of additional ballot papers being printed during previous elections.
In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, stated that the party will insist on obtaining the necessary information before the printing starts.
“The Electoral Commission said they would provide us with a revised provisional register, but as of now, we have not received it. They also haven’t given us the ballot statistics, which should come from the voters’ code book of the register,” Dr. Tanko explained.
He questioned the basis for moving ahead with the printing, saying, “How are they going to print ballot papers without these figures? We have written to them, outlining our position. Although we have a meeting with them to discuss the process, we will not allow the printing of ballot papers to proceed without the necessary statistics and voter code books for each region.”
Dr. Tanko clarified that the party has no issue with printing the notices of poll but emphasized that the printing of ballot papers should not proceed until the requested information is provided.
