Farmers, Residents screened for HIV in Kpone

Over 300 Residents including farmers have been screened for the HIV Aids virus in Kpone, the Municipal capital of the kpone katamanso municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The free health screening and the HIV AIDS sensitization was organised by the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Commission under the theme, ‘Know your status and let help stop the spread of HIV and AIDS now’.

Speaking to Gitficonline.com, Mrs. Gertrude Abebleh Focal person for the Ghana Aids Commission Kpone in katamanso, stated that, it was time Ghanaians pay critical attention to the spread of the HIV virus.

She added that, due to the laborious works of the farmers, many do not have the luxury of time to under go health screening to know their status adding that the virus was fast spreading the communities and all stake holders should help stop the spread.

Mrs. Abebleh further opined that, there were available records that shows people were contacting the HIV virus quoting communities such as Sebrepor and Kpone where the infection rate was high.

According to her both female and male condoms would be given to any one who under go the screening including readable materials to help stop the spread of the virus.

Mrs. Henrita Agyeiwaa Gyebi, acting Municipal Community health promoter revealed that, the Kpone Katamanso municipal health directorate would from the 12 to 18 November begin vaccinations against yellow fever within the Municipality.

Mrs. Gyebi explained that, the country must be proactive in combating the yellow fever endemic.

‘Our neibouring countries are currently battling with the yellow fever endemic and we must be on the alert’ she hinted.

According to the Municipal health promoter the yellow fever mass immunization was targeted at people from age 10 to 60 years to protect them from contracting the infection.

She said reaserch has it that over 85 percent of infected persons do not show any sign and could be fatal when not attended to.

She added that, the immunization would take place at designated centers including health facilities within the Municipality adding that all covid 19 health protocols would be observed at the various centers.
