Ghana, South Korea Partner on Maritime Security, Climate Initiatives, and Digital Innovation

President John Dramani Mahama held bilateral discussions with Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of Korea, reaffirming the long-standing partnership between Ghana and Korea.

During the state visit to South Korea, the leaders signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering maritime security, climate change cooperation, and digital technology, aimed at strengthening bilateral collaboration.

After the talks, President Mahama emphasized the strong historical ties between the two nations, noting that shared democratic values and a commitment to human rights have underpinned their relationship.

He highlighted how these common principles enable close cooperation on international platforms such as the United Nations, where Ghana and Korea often align on key global issues.

President Mahama also pointed to expanding partnerships in agriculture and agribusiness, particularly through programs supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency, aimed at boosting rice production and strengthening Ghana’s food security.

He further noted opportunities for deeper economic engagement through the African Continental Free Trade Area, whose Secretariat is based in Accra, positioning Ghana as a strategic hub for production and exports across Africa.

President Mahama expressed optimism that Ghana’s natural and human resources, combined with Korea’s technological expertise, would foster a mutually beneficial partnership promoting sustainable growth and shared prosperity for both countries.
